Confounding Expectations
2007
In this show I parted from habit by imposing a grid over my gestural painting. The resulting canvases result from the tension between my gestural impulses and the imposed structure.
Much of the appeal of the entire series derives from how successfully Fromm juxtaposes freedom and precision, making the newly introduced geometric elements in her compositions expressive and even sensual by means of her skill as colorist, as well as her exquisite, unexpected and never rigid spatial appointment.”
